Victoria Whisman, LMFT
Victoria Whisman, MFT has spent her career helping people understand how they got off-track — and find the path back to themselves.
As a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Marin County, Victoria works with anxiety, trauma, codependency, and the deeply ingrained patterns that form when we grow up in homes where chaos, addiction, or emotional unavailability were the norm. She has a particular gift for helping clients who know something needs to change but can't quite name what — those who feel the weight of old stories without yet having words for them.
Victoria's approach is integrative and body-informed, drawing from psychodynamic, gestalt, cognitive, and transpersonal frameworks. Central to her practice is EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), a highly researched, evidence-based method that helps the brain finally process what's been stuck — allowing clients to move forward in ways that insight-based talk therapy alone sometimes can't reach. She also draws on the Trauma Resiliency Model, which teaches clients to recognize the way stress lives in the body and develop real, embodied tools for returning to balance.
Her background in yoga and mindfulness practice runs throughout her work, bringing a holistic attention to the mind-body connection that many clients find both grounding and quietly transformative. She believes therapy should feel like a space where you can actually exhale — not perform wellness, but do the genuine, sometimes uncomfortable, always worthwhile work of coming home to yourself.
Clients who have worked with Victoria describe growing in their capacity to set boundaries, tolerate difficult emotions, understand the family patterns shaping their present choices, and — perhaps most importantly — develop a deeper trust in their own knowing.
Victoria sees clients in person at her office in San Rafael and virtually throughout California. License #MFC51335
